On August 3rd, which would’ve been Sandoe’s 32nd birthday, his family posted on the @lukesandoe Instagram account that they would share what they called a “best and final gift” for Luke, his official cause of death.

“There have been many dark days during the last 12 weeks. Losing Luke has left an unimaginable void in our family and we will never be the same again.

Luke’s unexpected death sent shockwaves through the bodybuilding fraternity. No official cause of death was released which resulted in unfounded speculation and rumour. We can only assume this was the reason for the inaccurate posts purporting to 'know' how Luke lost his life. Such posts, discussions and comments have caused us additional and unnecessary suffering.

Luke was an upcoming star; expected by many to become Mr Olympia in the coming years. The bodybuilding industry is an enormously successful and financially rewarding one. In other sports, it is a requirement that athletes maintain exceptional health and that the promotors, sponsors, and organisers actively assist this.

However, we have found no evidence of this. It has been immensely disappointing to come to the realisation that Luke was perhaps, little more than a business opportunity.

Please, we ask of all of you to look after yourselves. This should be even more relevant with the knowledge that we lost Luke to heart failure, not suicide.

Through Luke’s podcasts, interviews, posts, videos, and appearances, he touched so many lives. Luke’s loss has not only been felt by his family and friends but by his hundreds of thousands of followers worldwide. We are grateful for the support from so many of you especially in the donations that will support his children. We hvae taken great comfort the comments, cards, and private messages we have received as a family.

“Our wish now is for Luke and his legacy to be respected and remembered for the extraordinary father, athlete, and human that he was.”

Before the family came out to reveal the truth, there was many speculations that comes with his death. Of course bodybuilding is a dangerous sport where one must be knowledgeable enough to not over-use or overstrain to get more results without harming the over-harming the body.

The most common reason that many would've thought of would be the over-use of supplements or steroids which is common in bodybuilding to achieve superhuman physiques.

It was saddening to hear even his friend, Ben Chow, thought Luke went suicidal, claiming to know his demons from the past.

If I was truly a friend, I would have not jumped to conclusions without knowing the truth.

Luke was the future Mr. Olympia

Luke has gained popularity in the bodybuilding world and hoped to qualify for 2020 Mr. Olympia. Unfortunately, he did not make it then.

Many fans all over the world was rooting for him due to his immense physique shown at 2019 Mr. Olympia which got him the 11th place.
